Hard Bargain Farm’s Commitment to Area Children
and the Environment is Acknowledged by
Chaney Enterprises
Hard Bargain Farm, a Southern Maryland based
working farm, has been recognized by Chaney Enterprises,
the Mid-Atlantic’s leading construction materials
supplier, for their commitment to providing area
youth a refuge to explore the wonders and excitement
of the Potomac, so that they may foster environmentally
responsible behavior and a lasting connection between
the people and our river.
Since the early seventies, Hard Bargain Farm
has been promoting environmental stewardship and
conservation to over 250,000 urban students and
teachers through
one-or two-day performance-based learning experiences, hands-on science experiences
through the National Park Service, and their annual Potomac Watershed Cleanup.
Students and teachers are provided a fun learning experience through their
exploration of the 330-acre working farm and surrounding waterways. Watershed
walks, bird watching, exploration by canoe, fish dissection, and the simplicity
of farm life show each person how they can have a positive influence on their
own environment.
Through the monetary support of the school system
and area businesses like Chaney Enterprises, the
facility’s look and function may be preserved
the way the former owners, Alice and Henry Ferguson requested it be left. The
combination of Hard Bargain Farm’s commitment to teaching the communities
environmental responsibility and Chaney Enterprises’ commitment to helping
provide an overall better quality of life, will surely continue to provide
our communities a healthy way of life.
