CHANEY NAMED AGGMAN OF 2003
Chaney Enterprises is proud to announce that
Francis H. Chaney, II was recently the recipient
of the 2003 Aggman of The Year Award. This prestigious
national honor was presented to him on Saturday,
January 24, 2004 at the National Stone, Sand
and Gravel Associations Annual Convention held
in Phoenix, Arizona.
With over 30 years of combined editorial experience
in the industry, Aggregates Magazine selects
an exceptional individual each year to receive
recognition
as the “Aggman Professional of the Year.” The recipients of this
award are selected based upon their personal contributions to the advancement
of the aggregates industry. In the case of Frank Chaney, he has gone above
and beyond the trade standards in all areas of consideration, especially his
efforts to promote the advancement of education in the aggregates industry.
This award ranks Chaney’s efforts with the highest caliber individuals
in the nation, like Bruce Mason, former executive director of the Indiana Mineral
Aggregates Association and Bill Sandbrook, president of Oldcastle Materials,
Inc.-Western Division. In many ways it is a great honor to achieve this award,
but it is especially phenomenal for a family owned and operated, relatively
small company in the industry, to be recognized nationally for the efforts
of their home-town leader.
Chaney, who is the chairman of the board for
Chaney Enterprises, realizes the importance of
neighbors serving neighbors. As stated by Aggregates
Magazine, “he
could be considered something of a career philanthropist and volunteer.” Being
active in his community is actually an understatement, when speaking of Chaney.
From being a member of the Board of Directors for the National Stone, Sand
and Gravel Association, The Aggregates Foundations for Technology, Research
and Education, and the Mineral Information Institute to being the founder and
director of the Maryland Industries for Technical Education, he still finds
time to serve as the president of the Eugene Chaney Foundation. This foundation
receives 10% of Chaney Enterprises net profits each year and is responsible
for the distribution of these funds to local charities and organizations. Another
fine point to demonstrate Chaney’s giving nature is through the extensive
land initiatives and reclamation efforts that Chaney Enterprises and its partners
have accomplished. The amount of land that has been donated to the MD Parks
and Recreation, as well as the Maryland Wetlands Restoration Project is truly
remarkable.
