Chaney Enterprises Supports Local Veteran
of Operation Iraqi Freedom
Chaney Enterprises donated 4 yards of concrete
to assist with the remodeling of a recent veteran
of Operation Iraqi Freedom's house located in
Clinton, MD.
Sergeant Robert Bonner Jr., a veteran of Operation
Iraqi Freedom, who served in the Army as a Non-Commissioned
Officer for a medical unit, was injured July 5,
2004 when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED)
detonated next to his vehicle while on routine
patrol.
Sgt. Bonner's injuries included loss of his right
leg above the knee, his left leg below the knee
and limited vision in his right eye. For Sgt.
Bonner's dedicated service and selfless acts he
was awarded a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and the
Iraq Expeditionary Medal.
Serving Those Who Serve, PG County Christmas
in April, Chaney Enterprises and other local companies
donated time and materials for this worthwhile
cause. Volunteers included personnel from Andrews
Air Force Base and actress and co-founder of Make
the Difference Network, Jessica Biel.
Modifications to the house include a more accessible
entrance into the house, bathroom and kitchen,
as well as other carpentry work and repairs. The
4 yards of concrete donated on behalf of Chaney
Enterprises was used to create an oversized wheelchair
ramp to the front entrance of the house and a
10 x 10 slab in the backyard so Sgt. Bonner could
easily enjoy outdoor activities with his family.
Many volunteers were on hand to honor the Bonner
family, but the most extraordinary part of the
day was when Countrywide presented the family
with a check which covered two years of mortgage
payments! What a relief for a family of six which
include the recent birth of their fourth son.
With the busy life of the entire family, Sgt.
Bonner is currently pursuing his college degree
and looks forward to spending time with his family
in their newly remodeled house. |
