Leo Curtis Memorial Scholarship
SCHOLARSHIP AID AVAILABLE FOR CHILDREN OF CHANEY
EMPLOYEES
The Chaney Foundation is proud to continue awarding
the Leo Curtis Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship
was established in memory of Ralph "Leo" Curtis,
a Chaney Enterprises employee with 12 years of
service who passed away in November of 1999. Leo
was the ultimate professional and the first volunteer
for our Mentor Driver Program. Education and training
of others became Leo's passion. He was an honored
member of Maryland's Road Team, one of only four
drivers in the State to be selected to represent
Maryland on a National Training program designed
to educate elementary and middle school children
on truck driving safety issues.
The Chaney Foundation shall annually award to
one eligible applicant; tuition assistance in
the amount of $1,000.00 (up to a maximum of $4,000.00
over four years). One scholarship will be awarded
on a competitive basis with preference given to
students studying a major related to the building
trades, such as Drafting, Construction Management,
Concrete Industry Management, Engineering, Architecture
or Business. This scholarship may be used at a
two or four year college of the student's choice
in accordance with the application guidelines.
Eligible high school seniors must meet the criteria
set out in the scholarship application, which
include maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA, scholastic
achievement, financial need, community and school
involvement, and must submit to a personal interview
if requested. Applicants will also be required
to write a 300 word essay explaining their educational/business
goals for the next five years.

application and attachments may be dropped off
at Chaney Enterprises' headquarters located at
12480 Mattawoman Drive, Waldorf, Maryland, or
mailed to the Chaney Foundation, P.O. Box 548,
Waldorf, MD 20604. The deadline for accepting
applications is March 31, 2006. The scholarship
will be awarded May 2006.
