Chaney Foundation Awards Scholarships to Maryland Envirothon Winners
For the fifth year in a row the Chaney Foundation
was proud to award scholarships at the 16th annual
Maryland Envirothon held at the William S. Schmidt
Outdoor Education Center in Brandywine, Maryland.
Scholarships were awarded to individual team
members of the top three winning teams. More than
100 challengers from 18 counties across Maryland
took part in this year's competition. A five-member
team of high school students from Washington County
Clear Spring High School is the winner of this
year's competition.
Maryland Envirothon is an outdoor natural resources
competition that challenges students to identify
and categorize living resources, perform soil
surveys and solve other complex natural resource
issues. Each team's knowledge is tested under
the supervision of foresters, soil scientists
and wildlife specialists.
Chaney Enterprises finds supporting the Maryland
Envirothon so important because it shares their
commitment to the environment to sustain or increase
the quality of life for our communities by protecting
and safeguarding our environment. Chaney Enterprises
efforts will assist in keeping the air clean,
the water pure and to ensuring appropriate land
use.
The Maryland Envirothon is sponsored by the Maryland
Association of Soil Conservation Districts and
the State Soil Conservation Committee. Contributors
and supporters include the Maryland Departments
of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment,
Maryland Cooperative Extension, Smithsonian Environmental
Research Center and the USDA Natural Resources
Conservation Service.
Congratulations to all of the students who participated
in the 2006 Maryland Envirothon!
