Chaney Beautification Grant Program Celebrates Five Years
The Chaney Foundation recently celebrated the
5th year of the Beautification Grant Program with
an awards ceremony. Over twenty-five representatives
from twelve winning organizations for 2007 attended.
Chaney Foundation board member Frank Chaney and
Community Relations Associate, Jessica Pinkey
presented plaques and grants to the winners. Beautification
Grant recipients include Archbishop Neale School,
BSA Troop 1709, Caroline County Historical Society,
Charles County Fair, College of Southern Maryland,
Charles County Master Gardeners, Charles County
Public School, Dr. James Craik Elementary School,
La Plata Community Garden Club, Matthew Henson
Middle School, St. Mary's Bryantown School and
William B. Wade Elementary School.
The Beautification Grant Program for Charles
County was created in 2003. Foundation board member
Bob Agee explained the idea behind the program.
"The purpose of this program is to assist people
in beautifying Charles County, encourage them
to identify their own problems, and determine
the best way to resolve it. We just provide the
resources and encouragement; they provide the
ideas and the labor." This year, the Chaney Foundation
Board selected twelve Charles County schools and
non-profit organizations proposed beautification
projects to receive grants in the amount up to
$1,000.00.
2007 Chaney Beautification Grant recipients are:
Archbishop Neale School, Boy Scout Troop 1709,
Caroline County Historical Society, Charles County
Fair, College of Southern Maryland, Charles County
Master Gardeners, Charles County Public Library,
Dr. James Craik Elementary School, La Plata Community
Garden Club, Matthew Henson Middle School, St.
Mary's Bryantown School and William B. Wade Elementary
School.
Ten percent of Chaney Enterprises' overall net
profit is transferred to the Chaney Foundation,
the philanthropic arm of Chaney Enterprises, to
be donated to charitable non profit organizations.
The purpose of the Chaney Foundation is to improve
the health, education, environment and welfare
of our neighbors and their children. Additionally,
funds are provided by local businesses and through
Chaney Enterprises customer base. Funds are also
donated by Chaney Enterprises employees and are
matched 100 percent by the company to be given
to their charity of choice.
Chaney Enterprises is a construction materials
supplier servicing the entire Mid-Atlantic region
with concrete, sand, gravel, stone and concrete
block. The company operates seven ready mix concrete
plants, four sand and gravel facilities throughout
the state of Maryland and the Concrete Store,
a 19,000-square-foot contractor-grade construction
materials supply store.
