Chaney University Earns "Excellence in Training Award" from NRMCA
Chaney Enterprises was awarded first place in
Category C for the 2006 calendar year National
Ready Mixed Concrete Associations (NRMCA) Excellence
in Training program.
NRMCA recognizes member companies’ investment
in NRMCA training programs each year by calculating
the average hours of NRMCA education programs
ready mixed producer members, as a company, participate
in annually. The calculation is training hours/cubic
yardage/company and includes the number of CDP
drivers certified/recertified per year.
“We are very fortunate to be associated
with NRMCA. They provide a variety of excellent
training programs for our industry. Chaney Enterprises
takes advantage of many of these opportunities
to train our employees because we feel knowledge
and training are keys to success of our employees
and company,” said Patsy Bergquist, Chaney
Enterprises’ Human Resources Manager.
The foundation to building careers at Chaney Enterprises
is Chaney University. Housed in the Eugene Chaney
Training Center on Acton Lane in Waldorf, Chaney
University is in session 50 out of 52 weeks a
year. Employees frequently draw on the Universities’
substantial resources not only for training, but
also for subject expert support. Chaney Enterprises
is also committed to increasing the opportunity
for our suppliers and customers to benefit from
our training programs.
“Providing career development and enhanced
learning opportunities for all employees has always
been a very important part of what we do at Chaney
Enterprises. We’ve taken a comprehensive
view of trying to provide education, making sure
that we define learning as being broad. It’s
not just classes, seminars/workshops, mentoring,
or learning on the job—we provide all of
those things,” said Arlene Kirby, Chaney
Enterprises’ Training Director.
Employees are encouraged to participate in a minimum
of 40 hours of training each year. They have a
wide variety of professional and personal development
courses to choose from. Each month safety, wellness,
computer skills, and management courses are offered.
Other topics regularly scheduled include product
knowledge, customer service, and delivery professional
(driver) skills training. Kirby also explained,
“We are not only building careers for our
people, we are building futures. We value our
people and the contributions they make to Chaney
Enterprises.”
“We are very pleased that the organization
which represents our industry in all of North
America has given this recognition to Chaney Enterprises
for our education and training initiatives,”
said Bill Childs, Chaney Enterprises’ President.
“More importantly we are proud that our
company is able to offer this caliber of education
and training programs to our employees. Everyone
benefits from continuing education and training
individuals, company, customers, industry and
community.”
